Vacancy: ICZ Steering Committee Member
Volunteer PositionThe International Congress of Zookeepers (ICZ) is a conglomerate of zookeeper associations from around the world. Our vision is ´a global network of zookeepers contributing to the highest standard of professional animal care and the role of zoos today.´
The ICZ is managed by a steering committee, which is currently made up of representatives from eight zookeeper associations (AKTAP, GACAS, AICAS, AFSA, ABWAK, ASZK, BdZ and Harpij).
In order to widen our representation, we would like to involve new steering committee members who are not connected to one of the associations listed above. Therefore, we are looking for zoo-professionals who are able to communicate in English, have regular access to e-mail and would like to devote some of their time working in a diverse team to achieve something for the betterment of the profession.
You would be expected to work on a wide variety of projects and be able to meet deadlines. The steering committee has one face-to-face meeting per year and bimonthly e-mail meetings. Skype meetings or other meetings will occur as required.
Steering committee members will need to be self-funded through their work, association or independently until funding sources are better secured.
Each term is for a period of three years, with elections in the congress-year. If you do not believe you can hold the position for three years, you should not nominate.
How to Apply
Inquiries or applications can be directed to Liz Romer (President, ICZ) at firstname.lastname@example.org. Applications should include a current resume and a cover letter outlining your strengths and commitment.
Applications close on June 30th, 2019.
The positions will be voted on by the ICZ executive committee.
Illustrated handbook on zookeepingWe need your help!
The ICZ committee is presently seeking YOUR assistance for a very exciting project. It is an illustrated handbook on zookeeping which will be produced in a number of selected chapters. The aim is to provide instruction for these keepers who are unable to read or source educational material in their own language.
This project aims to provide keepers with a simple guide to improve animal husbandry and keeper safety via the use of pictograms. To create these we need people from zoos and wildlife parks around the world to send us sequential shots of keepers undertaking their daily tasks. The first one we will be concentrating on is feeding. The photos will only be used in the development of the pictograms and not for any other purpose. It doesn´t matter how good or poor your facilities are the main idea is to see how the actual tasks are being done.
